RIP Robert Hunter
This is a fucking gut punch One of the great wordsmiths of our time, dead at 78. I truly cannot imagine my world without his words. Posting from phone so I will keep it brief. Just an enormous loss, but as long as songs are sung his words will live on
Son, this ain't a dream no more, it's the real thing

...this IS sad. Got Brokedown 7/9/89 from Giants Stadium box playing as soon as I found out. One of the best songwriters ever.

Re: RIP Robert Hunter
Let my inspiration flow, in token lines suggesting rhythm, that will not forsake me, till my tale is told and done.
The story teller makes no choice, soon you will not hear his voice, His job is to shed light, and not to master

Hunter's letter to Jerry a year after Garcia died: a long and wonderful piece of writing
So much from the letter stands out but this is especially on target:
You knew one decent song was worth a dozen cobbled together pieces of shit, saved only by arrangement. I guess we have a few of those too, but the percentage is respect ably low. Pop songs come and go, blossom and wither, but we scored a piece of Americana, my friend. Sooner or later, they'll notice what we did doesn't die the way we do. I've always believed that and so did you.
