SPIN picks top 300 albums since 1985
SPIN picked their top 300 albums since they started in 1985.
They included 2 albums by Beyonce and 3 by Kanye West.
They included all of 4 metal albums.
They included nothing by Neil Young.
They included nothing by Songs: Ohia/Magnolia Electric Co./Jason Molina.

Outside of Ragged Glory, I probably wouldn't any of Neil's post-1985 output in there.
But leaving that out is an omission of such magnitude that it renders the list void.

Harvest Moon
Broken Arrow
Sleeps with Angels
would definitely make my list.
Mirror Ball, Silver & Gold, Prairie Wind, & Psychedelic Pill might.
E quindi uscimmo a riveder le stelle.

Nothing wrong with Beyonce and Kanye West on a list of 300 albums, but there are surely some bad omissions
And I knew when I woke up Rock N Roll would be here forever

i'd say there's something wrong when someone thinks that they have 4.6% of the best 129 LPs of the last 30 years...
and those same people think _Blacklisted_ is Neko's best record?

hey, this list is from three months ago.
i bet that new High On Fire record would have otherwise made it.

There's more Janet Jackson and Daft Punk than there is Kanye and Beyonce

I don't know, I didn't spreadsheet it out like you did. I can't get my panties in a twist about what some magazine likes compared to what I like. If you want OM and Yob to be in the top 10 best albums, start your own magazinetinnitus photography wrote:in the top 129?

One of the best rock quotes ever came from back when Spin first started and they had a swimsuit issue. Lemmy said he doesn't like to go to the beach because he doesn't like to "get sand in me foreskin"Bill in CT wrote:Only on the Internet. Re: SPIN picks top 300 albums since 1985
hey, if you are fine w/ those records being ranked so high, in the grand total of all records released in the last 30 years, have at it!Zip City wrote:I don't know, I didn't spreadsheet it out like you did. if expressing opinions, doing a simple search for the first time a term appeared on a web page, and executing simple arithmetic, then i am justly accused of pantytwisted spreadsheeting. i do find it funny that, spreadsheet or not, you did a count of Daft Punk and Ms Jackson while deriding me for doing the same.
psst - hey KG, it's not just you

I have no problem with an online magazine that I don't read having different opinions than my owntinnitus photography wrote:hey, if you are fine w/ those records being ranked so high, in the grand total of all records released in the last 30 years, have at it!Zip City wrote:I don't know, I didn't spreadsheet it out like you did. Re: SPIN picks top 300 albums since 1985
Seems like a perfectly reasonable list of SPIN type records to me if you accept the premise that SPIN is ranking albums in the genres they have been covering since the 80s.

I didn't say I was excited about it, just that there was nothing wrong with it. It was a comment of passivity, not support

I've never seen a list posted on any message board or discussion group that didn't end with folks going at each other. Yeah, they sometimes help generate healthy discussions but all too often, that isn't the case. Now, my top ten reasons why I don't like lists...Tequila Cowboy wrote:Lists are bad for us.

Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

I bought 151 of those albums. If I still own half of them it will be a miracle. Some right turkeysI bought when I was young and stupid.
