Tell Us about Your Band
Do we have a thread like this already? If not, talk to people about your musical endeavors! I'm currently mixing a couple tracks my band recorded, so I'll wait on posting about it til I finish those.

Re: Tell Us about Your Band
I'm thinking about starting a band, it probably wouldn't be very popular around here though , atmospheric ambient music with jazz, post rock, drone, dub and experimental influences, I have a guitar player interested in joining I just need to find the rest of the band, preferably not guys who wanna be rock musicians.

That actually sounds like the most knowledgeable and interesting thing I've ever read by you LJ. Those influences sound right up my wheelhouse.

Re: Tell Us about Your Band
Everyone I know says I know more about and types of music than any one they've ever met, it's my passion and I hope that would come through in the music I make, that's why I have to find the right musicians for the band, not just music and who want to "ROCK" I'm not so much into that anymore

Re: Tell Us about Your Band
I recently recorded my band in a room at school, and did most of the mixing in the last few days. You can listen to and download the whole thing over here: http://drownedvalley.bandcamp.com/
It's pretty short, only a few songs, a couple new and one old. I used to describe us as a sort of 'dark folk' thing, but these songs are for the most part upbeat and, hopefully, uplifting. It's really folk by necessity, given that it's easier to have and practice with an all-acoustic band, but we just lost about half the members on this recording, so I'm thinking of maybe trying to reconstitute the group as something closer to maybe Whiskeytown or Uncle Tupelo or Titus Andronicus, a loud and fast rock band with folk and country influences. That's the ideal, though. I'll see what time brings.

Because my attempts at self-promotion worked so well last time, I'm trying again!
We have a new song here: http://drownedvalley.bandcamp.com/album/devil-find-me
Just my friend and I singing, recorded live in my house. Slow, measured folk, Didn't It Rain -esque. It might be to some of your likings. Please let me know if you give it a shot!

Re: Tell Us about Your Band
I'm in a couple of bands in Portland, OR. I write songs, sing and play guitar in Cutbank http://cutbank.bandcamp.com, alt.country, americana, rock n' roll.
I also play guitar and some keys in Spirit Lake http://spiritlakesounds.bandcamp.com. "Spirit Lake, which came together in the spring of 2009, combines its members’ love for the Rolling Stones and Gram Parsons with their history of crafting arena-size pop-rock."
-Willamette Week
Spirit Lake is playing Saturday at Dante's in Portland with the great Truckstop Darlin' http://truckstopdarlin.bandcamp.com. Cutbank is playing on Saturday, June 15th at Shannihans in Vancouver, WA with Barbara in the Attic http://barbaraintheattic.bandcamp.com

Our band is a trio. I play the bass. Heavy jam band sound for lack of a better term. And I hate the "jam" band term. Think Blue Cheer with better vocals and dynamics. Maybe Govt. Mule is a better comparison.

I've been playing bass in a Bakersfield/Burritos-ish country rock band called Dirt Floor Revue for about 5 years. We generally play in Brooklyn, but we've played all around the NYC metro area. The band has four singer/writers. (the song "80 on 80" at the link below is me.)

You guys sound great. I'm definitely picking up on that Western vibe. Keep up the good work.

Re: Tell Us about Your Band
The other band I play in, Spirit Lake, has a new album coming out Friday. Three guitar, psychedelic rock n' roll, a little country in it now since the other lead guitar player has also taken up pedal steel. Here's what the Portland Mercury has to say about it…
"On their second album, The Biggening, Spirit Lake don't shy away from the oil-slick muscle rock that characterized their earlier stuff—tried-and-tattered, bruised-and-battered biker rock in the vein of Blue Cheer (the strain of acid and the band). But The Biggening might be the Portland band's Led Zeppelin III, as there are some mellower digressions and even a few acoustic guitars here and there. Starting with the peaceful, easy feelin' of "Santa Ana Winds" and continuing through the early-morning comedown of "I Want a Love" and "The Town That I Died In," Spirit Lake lets their bluster blow soft, aiming for gentle ripples rather than whitecaps. The overtly country influences are a good fit for the band, but they're still at their best with bluesy, bong-ready blowouts like the swaggering title track."
Have a listen here: http://spiritlakesounds.bandcamp.com
Our CD release show is Friday at Mississippi Studios in Portland, OR, so come out if you're in the area.

Not really a band, per se, but here's a piece I composed for cello:

I am booking studio time at The House of Vibes for a session in May. House of Vibes is the studio owned by members of The Grip Weeds. I love everything that has come out of that studio. IMO, it is the best in NJ.

Re: Tell Us about Your Band
My band (really just my friend and I and not really much of anything at this point) recorded this little pop/love song back in November but I just put it online here. Check it out if you've got a spare minute or two, it's nice and short.

Re: Tell Us about Your Band
Not my band, but part of one of many shows I put on that somehow didn't end up with me in jail. I still love this band and the first two are still great favorites of mine: Rex Rootz: Filth on Saturday. This was probably the show that got the sound ordinance changed for political reasons so that it could be used to suppress demonstrations. I still hate each and every one of the lousy bastards that passed that law, covered for the people who passed that law, or excused passing that law. Fuck them all.

I wish I had a band. Instead, I'm friends with people with bands.
And I knew when I woke up Rock N Roll would be here forever

Re: Tell Us about Your Band
Every once in a while I get the urge to be in a band again, then I remember how much work it is, what a pain in the ass other musicians can be, how late you have to stay up to play most shows, how heavy my amp is... These days, to quote T. Hardy Morris, "I'd just as soon stay home."

Some people stop living long before they die, work a dead end job just to scrape on by. But I live forever just to bend that note in two. And they don't even move the pool table for us. This is my band HIPPO performing the song "Sisters" on Halloween night.
