Nice GBV picture. They're going to have to get Bob some sort of hoist for his leg kicks. He's older than me & that's saying something!tinnitus photography wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2024 2:58 pmthe last handful of shows I covered for The Big Takeover:

he needs no assistance. he cranked out three high kicks in just "Romeo Surgeon" and unfortunately I had the wrong lens on and missed 'em all.
the new song sounds great, it's been while since I've been this excited for a new GBV record.

Tyler Childers in Knoxville tonight.
Turn it up to 10 and rip off the knob

I was kidding. Bob operates at a super human level. Just look at the release schedule/catalog. I'm a longtime fan going back to Bee Thousand & have seen them a lot. The current band is really great.tinnitus photography wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2024 3:29 pmhe needs no assistance. he cranked out three high kicks in just "Romeo Surgeon" and unfortunately I had the wrong lens on and missed 'em all.

I've seen JCM a few times and can understand his frustration with hecklers. If you think you aren't getting any politics at his show...you haven't been listening for a long time. Lord knows we've seen this with hometown heroes, DBT.
The story reminded me of seeing an early Ryan Adams concert, in a bar/smaller venue a long, long time ago. He played three songs and stormed off after some drunk asshole kept screaming "Summer of 69". At the time, it was funny, maybe a few too many times, but this was certainly a Ryan Adams tantrum. About half the crowd hung back for well more than an hour and he FINALLY came back solo and played for over a hour totally acoustic standing on the bar. All in all a great show. 10 or 20 years later, I heard him ACTUALLY perform Summer of 69, finally giving up and succumbing to the joke.

Re: Who's Everyone Seeing Live?
On the scale of legendary shout outs like "Free Bird," "Whipping Post" and "Summer of 69", Summer of 69 is easily the funniest. Easily the stupidest but not nearly so common were those who shouted for "Dancing in the Dark" at Peter Wolf shows when they meant "Lights Out" (Bruce's Dancing in the Dark was hugely popular at the time).pearlbeer wrote: ↑Wed Apr 17, 2024 12:59 pmhttps://www.wideopencountry.com/john-me ... h-heckler/

Re: Who's Everyone Seeing Live?
Teenage Fanclub last nite at the Paradise in Boston. They were very good; better than I remember when I saw them in London a long time ago. They did this shtick at the end of the main set essentially saying that there would be a 4 song encore so don't think this is the real end of the set. My guess is that they haven't been getting enthusiastic calls for encores but their set is structured to include one, so... While the club wasn't full, the crowd was enthusiastic and even knowing that the encore was coming it was more or less justified.
The show really emphasized what a miracle DBT is. TF has been around a long time and they're still making new records. They played a few songs from the last 2 last nite. It was all solid but the difference between those songs and the ones from their "classic period" (and the crowd's reactions) were obvious. Making first rate "hell yeah I want to hear that new one" music 25 years into their career is an exceptional aspect of the DBT experience.

Re: Who's Everyone Seeing Live?
Got to see JI&400U on Thursday, with Amanda Shires opening. Pretty standard Isbell show--"Decoration Day" right before the encore break was a big highlight, and "Elephant" is always a welcome addition to a setlist. Also thought "Super 8" sounded great. It's never been a particular favorite of mine, but the guitar work on it was very, very good.
The show will be most notable, I imagine, for Amanda's performance in light of their recent divorce. Here's a synopsis: https://www.stereogum.com/2262146/amand ... eeth/news/
Drama aside, her performance was strong and very human. The crowd was warm despite the potential awkwardness, and the response seemed to touch her.
I didn't go to RRX on Friday night. One Isbell show is usually sufficient for me, and seeing him indoors again was my priority. After a few years of only seeing him from a long distance at Red Rocks, GA at Mission Ballroom was fantastic. My brother and I ended up probably about 10 rows deep, dead center. It is also just a phenomenal-sounding venue, so I am always happy when my favorites book shows there.

All it takes is one wicked heart, a pile of money, and a chain of folks just doing their jobs
Re: Who's Everyone Seeing Live?
My wife and I were at the Red Rocks show Friday night, we added it to the tail end of a weeklong vacation. I did hear about the Denver show but there was no drama at all between JI and Amanda at Red Rocks. They each acknowledged the awkwardness of the situation and thanked the other in a very nice way. She thanked Jason and the band and said something like "I know this is really weird but we're all making the best of it" and he thanked her for the opening set and said "I know this wasn't easy for Amanda but wasn't she awesome" or something like that. As for the show, Jason was great, as usual. Other than his cover of The Cure it was pretty much a standard 400 Unit show. It's hard to believe how good they sound these days. Amanda's set was much better than I expected. Hadn't seen her perform in a long time and she really seems to have grown into her voice - not as high pitched or (dare I say) screechy as I remember from 10 years ago or whenever I saw her last. She got a big standing O after singing Highwomen which seemed to genuinely touch her. As for the venue, all I can say is WOW. Red Rocks lived up to and exceeded the hype.Mundane Mayhem wrote: ↑Mon May 06, 2024 2:51 pmGot to see JI&400U on Thursday, with Amanda Shires opening. John Moreland, last night. Moreland walking on stage is a sight to behold. He totally commands the room. You could hear a pin drop the entire night. His songs, his voice, all of it... just stunning. His melancholy, sad songs were a perfect vibe to help wrap up what was a pretty awful week for me. And to top it off my son came along and we had a great time.
