The closer you get to the meaning

This has serious road trip potential.

Loved "Dimed Out", "Fatal Flaw", and "Come On, Siobahn" right off the bat. This is dense as shit.

Joining you. I love this record. Would have loved to have been at the record release show in Denton last Friday. Word is that it was quite the thing.Clams wrote:

A few of the songs remind me of Springsteen's "This Hard Land"Tequila Cowboy wrote:Joining you. I love this record. Would have loved to have been at the record release show in Denton last Friday. Word is that it was quite the thing.Clams wrote:

need more Prine...whenever I am in the mood, his stuff just really does it for me and there's none better. Any other suggestions? (also have "The Mailman delivers..., and self-titled)

The Missing Years is good for what I'd consider his mid-period stuff. It was called a comeback at the time but I'm not sure how accurate that is. Like Guy Clark, he tends to take a long time between records. He also has at least three live ones out that are all worth your while with my preferences being John Prine Live and Live On Tour. The version of "The Missing Years" on the latter is a real highlight.211poundsofpork wrote:

Yep, I second The Missing Years. I spent a lot of time with that record just before I ended up in the musical wilderness for a decade or so. Really strong album.

I'm hearing echoes of Crazy Horse (or is it DBT?) on Tangled. Great song.Clams wrote:A few of the songs remind me of Springsteen's "This Hard Land"Tequila Cowboy wrote:Joining you. There are days when this album just starts playing randomly in my head so that I have no choice but to put it on.

"All Our Song" may be a Top 5 song of the year

Re: What's Everyone Listening to?
At the time, like a lot of folks, the album title carried a different meaning as it seemed he'd gone off the radar for a while. I attribute this to the two previous studio records (Aimless Love and German Afternoons) being the first released on Oh Boy which perhaps weren't distributed as widely as previous albums on Elektra/Asylum. Even though the latter record earned him a Grammy, I remember them being hard to find in my neck of the woods. So much so, that I had to order them as no local record stores were stocking them at the time.Tequila Cowboy wrote:Yep, I second The Missing Years. ive admittedly only played it twice so far, and only at work, but i dont know how much i like it. its kinda all over the place, which is fine, but it also feels like its trying to wrap itself up in a cohesive whole and it misses that mark imo.
but for a 50 year old billionaire its a wild album. he didnt play it safe when he easily could have, and i respect that, so ill give it more chances than i otherwise would.

Leon bridges - Coming Home
Mainly because it's got half of the guys from White Denim on it, but it sounds great

Title track is my all-time favorite Prine song.
