I do not really know anything specific about these 2 runs of shows, other than it's more 70s Dead, which I am cool with.

I cannot keep up anymore! I am still anticipating the Anthem of the Sun deluxe edition!

I am extremely familiar with three of the shows: 6/22/73, 5/19/74, and 5/21/74, had great boards of these for decades. 6/22/73 has always been one of my favorite shows, bar none- amazing setlist and performance, plus it's incredibly long/ Had someone asked me of shows I would want to be released officially, 6/22/73 would be among the top 3 I would name off the top of my head. 5/19/74 is a beast as well, really great show. 5/21/74 less but it is noteworthy alone for the longest Playin' in the Band ever played.

Way less familiar with the other 3, to the point that I really can't say anything about those specific shows. Really glad to see 6/22/73 and 5/19/74 being released, though the overall "theme" of this set seems to be a bit random. I can imagine them thinking, "why release two shows when we can release six ($$$)?"

I'm totally in, because (1) I really love 6/22/73 and 5/19/74, & (2) I am an idiot

no doubt, most of 1985 he had what I have always called the "crackpipe voice." I think the acknowledged this and tried to atone by playing such stellar guitar that entire year

I had been to a handful of shows before Saratoga and Hershey but that was where I went ALL IN and GOT IT. Was never the same again and wouldn't change it!

the mid first-set trifecta of Crazy Fingers>Supplication jam>High Time was one for the ages, one of the best moments of my GD career. And the Midnight Hour opener was so fuckin' loud, it hit like a massive explosion. I remember feeling it in my ribcage and being in awe. Yeah, I know how it sounds

just finished this last night, after reading about 85% in one sitting on Tuesday night. No time for any lengthy discussion now, but for now let me say that Phil & Jill Lesh come out as big-time villains, especially Jill. Selvin definitely knows the GD scene inside/out and has impeccable access, so while I am firmly Team Phil, I have no reason to think the book isn't extremely accurate. In addition, I have a good friend who was a big-time player in tour management with them, and he says the book is on the mark. Jill had long held the Dragon Lady moniker, the book just backs that up in spades

Don't read this if you would rather avoid the seamy underside of the surviving four, no one comes out of this looking particularly clean. That said, it's informative as fuck and is a chronicle of an important chapter in the GD universe, as unpleasant as said chapter may be

As I said before, I am solidly Team Phil, have been from day one, more or less, and I am probably one of the few people alive whose last name isn't Lesh and likes Phil's singing There are a plethora of digs against Phil's vocal stylings in the book (primarily in the chapters on the 2015 FTW shows)- here are a couple that made me guffaw

Lesh and his wife were alone in their appreciation of his vocal skills That's gold, Selvin! Gold!

Talking about the Soldier Field Box of Rain, Selvin writes:

Whatever emotional weight that might have carried was destroyed almost as soon as Lesh opened his mouth to sing

....they hit the first speed bump of the set- Lesh's vocals on Lady with a Fan. People had tried to persuade Lesh not to attempt the vocal, but he insisted.....Lesh's voice lacks the range and power for truly expressive singing

The PNW 73-74 just arrived!!! Not gonna mess with trying to post photos from phone, but suffice it to say that the packaging is both incredibly beautiful and elaborate. That said, I don’t know exactly how I am gonna store this in a way that is both practical and shows off the beauty of the box in a way that does it justice.

6/22/73 and 5/19/74 are two of the best shows of the period, and the rest is just a bonus afaic. So great to hear terrific recordings of these.

Agree 100% on those two shows- as I said before, I bought this for those two epic shows, the rest are, as you said, just icing on the cake

So far have only listened to 6/22/73- on top of this being one of my all-time favorite shows, Keith’s prominence in the mix is really jumping out, love it!!!

Any mix that favors Keith is ok by me! He's by far the most underrated member of the Dead imo. Also, Bobby's playing on a lot of this is revelatory. I can listen to Jerry solo all day, of course, but it's cool to hear the other guys so prominently for a change. Really makes you appreciate the fact that, in any other band, any of these guys would have been the Jerry, if that makes sense.

Heard some kvetching about the 4 songs with barely-audible vocals on 5/19, but I kinda dig it. Lets me focus more on what's being played.

Buyer's remorse is always a concern with these kinda lavish sets but I have no regrets in this one.
