New album will drop in May. Got the scoop from Will himself Sunday night. Pretty damned excited, it's been a while.

Just amazing. Played a variety of stuff from his various projects, Centro, SSG, solo and even one off his record with Jason Molina. Will's voice is an instrument of it's own. I highly recommend that anyone who digs him see one of these shows, and even if you don't you sure might after seeing one.

Just read on FB that Will is cancelling his upcoming Living Room shows due to a family emergency. Said he's never cancelled a show. Must be serious. Hope it gets better.

Centro-Matic are calling it a day. Final tour ends where it started in Denton, TX on 12/21 with Slobberbone supporting.
Really bummed about this but we're planning on bring in Denton for the final show.

The End of Centro-Matic?
Centro-Matic has announced a new tour in December, which Will Johnson says may be its last ever:
"I can write with no hint of drama that our December tour will be the last Centro-matic tour for the indefinite and foreseeable future. For a handful of reasons, the time finally feels right to celebrate the existence of this thing, then let it rest. I do think that the four of us will embark on some musical endeavor together again, but can’t say that it will be within the realm or tone of what Centro-matic has done."

Re: Artist of the Week 11/7/2011 Centro-Matic FINAL TOUR!!
I *MIGHT* have an extra for the FINAL Centro-matic show on 12/21 at Dan's Silverleaf in Denton, TX.
I bought an extra for my friend, but now she doesn't want to go because I'm driving down from Denver. If she changes her mind she still has dibs.
PM me if you're interested. I think face value is $15 (with fees). Cash or feeding me beers at the venue is acceptable payment. I'd have to meet you there.
I don't visit here as often as I used to, so if I don't get back to you right away don't wig out.
Some dude named Patterson Hood is opening. Anyone know if he's any good?

According to Pollstar, Jason Isbell will be sitting in with Centro-Matic during their show at the Mercy Lounge tomorrow in Nashville. Also, Joey & Kelly from Glossary will be opening that show.

The Water Liars are also on that bill. That's going to be a hell of a show tomorrow night.

11 days until Lurleen and I and a whole bunch of great people get to show these boys out in style for those three last shows in Denton. Getting sad, excited and a lot of other emotions all at the same time thinking about it. Hope everyone gets a chance to see them in the meantime.

Re: Artist of the Week 11/7/2011 Centro-Matic FINAL TOUR!!
I had the privilege of being there in Athens and it was incredible. Both openers, Thayer Serrano and Dead Confederate were on top of their game. So was Centro-matic, to say the least. I don't know much of their stuff by heart but I've seen them so many times now that I recognize a good bit of their live show. I'd estimate that at least a third of the crowd were musicians from athens and atlanta and probably even further away. I recognized one pretty prominent co-band leader from Alabama right there amongst us, as Jenn aluded to in another thread. The presence of so many musicians wanting to pay respect to the bands last ride speaks volumes for their legacy. We'll all miss them. As TC keeps saying, don't miss em.
Thanks Jenn for the CD rec. Fort Recovery hasn't left my truck stereo since Saturday morning.

A bunch of folks at the Hangout stopped in Nashville first for the show there, with Joey Kneiser and Kelly Smith opening. Lots of positive reviews from that (including from Kelly).

Good to see you last PM. "Sorry to see this band go" doesn't quite say it.

A fantastic show at Schuba's tonight. So sorry to see this band go, but happy that it left on its own terms.

Glad you made it Mr. B. I would have loved to have been at Schubas where I saw so many great Centro-Matic shows (not to mention tons of other great ones). So we've got what, St. Louis and Austin and then the final three in Denton? Anyone going to be at those first two?

Re: Artist of the Week 11/7/2011 Centro-Matic FINAL TOUR!!
centro-matic is my favorite band.
i am beyond glad and grateful i got to see 3 shows of this end of the run tour.
i can't really write a review that would sum up everything from the NYC , Boston, and Chicago shows.
some highlights for me:
getting to see anders parker for both nyc and boston. tight band ( mark spencer on keyboards). anders is a wicked guitarist.
in new york, it seemed a little sad, there were touching moments of real friendship between the band on stage. the show was a little quiet, in a good way. perhaps because they had just played nyc the night before. perhaps because they didn't even hit the stage until 12:15AM. ( and played til 2AM). perhaps it was because the crowd was a little douchey. (* lots of shout outs for songs, a thrown cup on stage, people talking, etc. not really big deals though. a perfect example is the guy who kept yelling for 'flashes and cables'. then kept yelling for it after it had already been played.that guy.) but, the company was incredible. if jonicont ever invites you to nyc, you would be a fool to not go. he and his family are incredibly gracious and wonderful and fun. thank you so much to them.
the boston ( technically allston) show was the very best centro-matic i have ever seen. one of the best rock shows i have ever seen. the bar, great scott, is pretty small. half of it was a bar and the show space was really small. i don't think there were more than 150 in the whole place. i was fortunate enough to bring my daughter.
i tend to be a pretty romantic dork. i imagined that somewhere down the line, centro-matic will be to future generations what big star is today. highly influential, incredibly underrated, and a band you wish you could have / would have seen more. so for me to be able to take her, well i am pretty damn pleased.
this show! fuck. it smoked.
before we went i made a list of songs for ily to listen to , so she could prep for the show.
almost every song, all my favorites were played. that never happens.
i don't keep set list, but fuck! fidgeting wildly, magic cyclops, mighty midshipman, calling thermatico, blisters may come, strahan, and i know many more i can't quite recall. i never actually thought i would cry, but hearing mighty midshipman did bring tears to my eyes. the band was on fire, in sync, and having a great time. so powerful and raucous. deliriously fantastic. anders joined them for a song and it was the shit!
.
the show was so incredible, i almost didn't want to go to see them in chicago because i didn't think they could surpass what i had just seen and heard.
last night the band said how grateful to chicago they were. they said chicago was one of the first cities to embrace them as a band when they first started touring outside of texas, in the summer of 1998. the bar, schubas, holds a special place for them. i have seen centro-matic at schubas, probably close to 20 times. each show has been outstanding.
last night was the best.
in addition to so many favorites played in boston, they added 'patience for the ride, good as gold, without you...'
i geeked out and bought the farewell tour poster. i even more geeked out when i waited and asked all 4 band members to sign it.
my final, and absolute geek moment, was getting my picture taken with will j.
i kind of can't believe i won't have the good fortune of seeing centro-matic come through town, once or twice a year like they have been doing as long as my son has been a live.
it makes me a little sad.
but i am so grateful for all the shows i did see, and all the music they have left behind.
if anyone recorded any of these shows, and someone can track them down, please let me know.
thanks, centro-matic.
