I'd love to read about the story of Dinosaur Jr. - does anyone know a good account of their history? Someone should grab them for a future AOTW...

blackwll wrote:How about some love for fellow Mississippi River Alt-country pioneers The Jayhawks?

Jayhawks are an absolute must for AOTW - who's got 'em? Gary Louris worked with Uncle Tupelo durring the recording of "Still Feel Gone" and, is partially credited on the song: "Cold Shoulder."

I' like to extend a huge "thanks" to everyone that contributed to this thread this week. It's been hugely entertaining to read and work on, etc.

A note- Max Johnston, multi-instrumentalist on the last UT album, also appeared on the first two Wilco albums. Since the late 90's, he's been a member of The Gourds (who definitely ought to be an Artist of the Week). Here's his humorous take on his departure from Wilco which hints at Jeff Tweedy's personnel problems.

Smitty: thanks for the "Welfare Music" respect. Right back at ya: that's a sweet blog.

Apropos of nothing: Chan Marshall is another artist I'd like to know if there's a good writeup on. Check out her rendering of "Moonshiner":

I've never taken a pissbreak during a DBT show but if I had it would have been during Dancing Ricky.

Wilco, Son Volt, or both? I got turned on to Wilco in about 1998, Son Volt a few years later. UT, who I discovered around 2003, just blew me away more than the offshoots did.

Either one, really; strange, since I'm usually partial to the more country-oriented stuff, but Wilco & SV sound more "natural" to me, like Tweedy & Farrar both really found their voices... or some shit.

Here's another great piece on March 16-20, 1992 from the same site.

As far as I know, the only way to get Record Store Day stuff is in actual record stores. If it shows up on eBay then that means someone has the wrong idea about Record Store Day.

Glad I never purchased any of those reissues a few years ago, not that I still won't pick them up at some point though.
