So we got new songs Heathens! I hope they both end up on a record. These are not "grow on you" songs, in my opinion, they get their hooks in you on the first listen. They are hard rocking with lyrics that move. I took a shot at working out the lyrics for both of them using the Archive recordings from the 9/22 Asheville show. I would definitely appreciate some help filling in the blanks and/or correcting what I have misheard.
Below lyrics updated to OFFICIAL, thanks Jonicont!
01 We needed warming from the cold hard facts
02 Unheeded warnings bout the broken tracks
03 All hope is fading and it’s not coming back again
04 Uniting forces may be calling fast
05 Changing courses to some Stalin past
06 Melting faces through the looking glass, my friend
07 Something’s got ahold of our feel alright
08 out of control in the appetite
09 We’re moving into the perilous night, Amen
_____
10 Dumb, white and angry with their cup half filled
11 Running over people down in Charlottesville
12 White House Fury, it’s the killing side, he defends
13 Defend the up-ender, yes he played that tune
14 It ain’t the ending but its coming soon
15 We’re making love beneath a sputnik moon again
16 White House is glowing from that red square light
17 The gates at the border being slammed down tight
18 We’re moving into the perilous night, my friend
____________
19 And why’s that drone looking through my window?
20 World keeps turning in the torch light shadow
21 A nightmare in khakis is beckoning
22 Both ends burning to the reckoning
____________
23 Ronnie Reagan must be spinning his grave
24 Putin’s on the rise / Ukraine’s under seige
25 Fascism’s knocking and Trump says “Let Them In”
26 I’d like to tell you there’ll be better days
27 But optimism’s running low today
28 We’re off the deep end with a lifeguard that can’t swim
29 The Klan and the Nazis are taking up the fight
30 against their own salvation in the savior’s light
31 We’re moving into the perilous night, Amen
32 Flags of oppression are blocking out the light
33 dismantling The Greatest Generation’s fight
34 We’re moving into the perilous night, Amen

I'd like to say I'm sorry, I'd like to say I'm sorry, I'd like to say I'm sorry...BUT I AIN'T SORRY!
01 losing your joy, playing with dangerous toys
02 insulate yourself from life, and all of its big noise
03 insinuate a fever dream, instigate a requiem
04 a deafening explosion of shame, an orgasm inside of your brain
05 silly young man why you use your heroin?...
06 beautiful lost girl
07 you turn your back on this mean sweet world
08 a taste of heaven, some part of you dies
09 'til you're something you cant recognize
10 raised to know better than, dying using heroin
11 a judgment discrepancy, cutting life expectancy
12 thought you knew better than that...
13 didn't '71 teach us anything
14 didn't '94 teach you anything
15 it's called to me and tempted me
16 but never quite captured me
17 i always just turned away
18 I've lost so many friends that way
19 missing my friends
20 who died using heroin
21 i thought they knew better than that
22 thought you knew better than that

Heard the new songs on the recording from the Peel first night. Perilous Night has some Clash vibes going on.
Also. there was a couple of posts on Scott Baxendale's insta the other day, with Cooley and Matt, apparently from Chase Park, seems they have started tracking songs.

Perilous Night definitely has Clash influence. It's amazing.
We call him Scooby Do, but Scooby doesn’t do. Scooby, is not involved
I made some changes after listening to last night's recording which is much clearer. So I am getting a strong impression this song is or parts of it are from the POV of Trump. I'm loving it. I made these changes after a few listens just on my phone speaker. Will give it a better go tomorrow.

Patterson mentioned one of the nights at the Peel that The Perilous Night is being recorded (or has already been recorded) and will be released as a single soon. I absolutely LOVE that song. Many times when DBT debuts a new song it takes me a few listens to really get it. Even the previews from American Band were slow growers for me (and I love that album). I knew within 30 seconds that The Perilous Night was a song I loved. The riff is killer and the lyrics are very timely. I suspect they're getting this single out in a kind of CSNY "Ohio" way.
Turn you demons into walls of goddamned noise and sound.

Indeed. I'm just impatient. Lyrics kind of became my thing with the last album release. Figured I carry that torch again. Even though I'm not that good at it. Sometimes once I hear the actuals I'm like OH OF COURSE! Damn....

Thanks for posting the links & the initial take on the lyrics!
First listen to each so these are very preliminary unvarnished reactions:
"Perilous Night:" Yep, I hear the Clash for sure, but I'd say it's the Clash meet the MG's, sprinkled w/ DBT's special sauce. That'll work any and every day of the week Lyrics seem sharp even in their not fully deciphered state. The only immediate help I can offer on those is that in line 29 I hear "...Ukraine's under siege." Seems like a sure winner and sure wish I was there for the debut.
"Heroin;" Patterson's personal pain and emotion are obvious and carry the song. The listener can feel his pain mixed w/ anger and disappointment. But imho the song's not there yet. I think it can go in a number of different directions and come out in a good place, from tortured folkie a la "Tonight's the Night," to "That Smell" - like "southern rock" [yikes that lightning strike was close!] to "People Who Died" punk, but right now it seems to me that the emotion is ahead of both the lyrics and the music. The line "thought you knew better than that" reminds me a lot of "you had to do it yourself," which is neither good nor bad by itself, that's just what I thought when I heard that line. No doubt hearing the live debut must have been incredibly exciting and once again all i can say is that I wish i had been there.

I have thought this before and the world let me down but this song has got to explode when they release it. SURELY! I can see late night hosts blowing up the phones to get DBT on to play this. Come on, this is the one...this. is. the. one!
I'd like to say I'm sorry, I'd like to say I'm sorry, I'd like to say I'm sorry...BUT I AIN'T SORRY!

That would be me. The lyrics Patterson handed to me are the same except for one thing. Instead of "nightmare in khakis is beckoning" the version I have is "Fourth Reich in khakis is beckoning"

"Fourth Reich in khakis" is a hell of a phrase.
All it takes is one wicked heart, a pile of money, and a chain of folks just doing their jobs
Man. Heard this last night at the Blue Note and I agree, "Perilous Night" is an immediate stunner. Also agree with Bean's M.G.'s take: This is some great Memphis punk.

Yep.

What's exciting to me, as evidenced by the inclusion of 3-D on the recording, is that the "finished" versions will likely evolve significantly. And I trust them explicitly to make these "live demos" even more riveting than they already are.
I’d have a lot of nerve to go feigning shock and outrage/If I'd been my example I’d be worse
