Philly, Nov 9 @ Union Transfer
Home town rock show! So glad the Truckers are finally playing Union Transfer, definitely my favorite of Philly's mid size venues. This show is the day after election day, so we're in for either a happy celebration or an angry burner, should be fascinating either way. Can't wait.

Re: Philly, Nov 9 @ Union Transfer
I almost - almost - pulled the trigger on this show. But the prospect of battling DC/Baltimore traffic on the way up after Election Tuesday, and back to Richmond the next day kiboshed the idea.
Now it's dark.

I'll be there. Never been to the Union Transfer, looking forward to it. I was getting sick of the TLA. Then its Lydia on Friday.
Re: Philly, Nov 9 @ Union Transfer
In, also my first visit to Union Transfer...
Re: Philly, Nov 9 @ Union Transfer
Union Transfer is like an opera house compared to the Electric Factory, TLA, etc.
A great venue to blow off some election steam.

In. Do they let you drink on the floor at Union Transfer, or is it only in designated sections?

Bill, it would make more sense for you to only post the shows for which you are "out"Bill in CT wrote:In

Not always. Last Lucero show had no drinking on the floor.Clams wrote:You can drink anywhere you want.uncle rickey wrote:In. Do they let you drink on the floor at Union Transfer, or is it only in designated sections?

Re: Philly, Nov 9 @ Union Transfer
A Lucero show with no drinking. Bizarro world.
Don't hurt people, and don't take their stuff.
Re: Philly, Nov 9 @ Union Transfer
Vincent knows his shit so I stand corrected. (But I def remember drinking on the main floor at the shows I've been to).Vincent wrote:Not always. And hopefully Margo Price at World Cafe Live in between DBT and Lydia.Gang Green wrote:I'll be there. Never been to the Union Transfer, looking forward to it. I was getting sick of the TLA. Then its Lydia on Friday.
Re: Philly, Nov 9 @ Union Transfer
I can confirm what Vincent said: alcohol is restricted on the floor/GA at "all ages" shows (which this is billed as). I emailed the venue and they replied:

Yeah, no alcohol on the floor!

In! I will be bringing a DBT newbie, so please be gentle with him.
As far as drinking, the last couple of shows at the Union Transfer have allowed drinks on the floor. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

When the lights came up we all went home but never quite the same.

The Philly 3DD family is always open to newbies, as demonstrated by you guys taking me in despite my being associated with Clams.pa_heathen wrote:In! I will be bringing a DBT newbie, so please be gentle with him.

And, unless the venue changes their stance, no alcohol on floor at all-ages show.

Re: Philly, Nov 9 @ Union Transfer
I clearly remember drinking beers and also some bourbon on the main floor when Isbell played UT in 2014. And that was an all ages show http://www.utphilly.com/event/407769-ja ... ladelphia/
Plus, most if not all shows at UT are all ages and I don't recall ever being restricted at the shows I've been to. So all hope is not lost.

Preview in today's Phila Inquirer
Patterson Hood and Mike Cooley were determined to get American Band, Drive-By Truckers' 11th album, out before Election Day, to maximize the immediate relevance of its songs about race relations, gun violence, and liberal Southerners' perspectives on the state of our union. The album ranks with the band's best: It's provocative and thoughtful, angry and reflective. On Wednesday, we get to see how songs like "What it Means" and "Kinky Hypocrite" play on the day after. One thing's guaranteed: The Truckers are one of America's most reliably great live bands, and their shows are cathartic celebrations of rock-and-roll. Given the moment, however, this one is especially noteworthy.

So, after careful consideration of the options and 100% deference to Van who knows his shit when it comes to Philly bars, the pregame will be at Prohibition Taproom at 501 N. 13th St. It's just a few blocks from Union Transfer and should be perfect. (If not, blame Van not me).

In light of last nights election result, I'm expecting and , quite frankly, I need of a total onslaught of ROCK. I bought my tickets thinking that if Trump won this might be the best , most intense rock show ever. Please bring to on.
