Clocking in at 2:08, Careless is the second-shortest DBT song in the catalogue (according to my iTunes). It's got just two quick verses and a raging, feedback-fueled car wreck of a finale. Have to think this one's about Chris Quillen (it says "June 1996, for Monster" in the online credits).
Careful that you don't use up your ninth one, we all were careless once.
It can't be too much fun, just going round once, it all can slip away.
One banana peel away.
You left this big ole void, sure miss your sweet voice.
Now we're left holding on. We all were careless once.
We all were careless once.

I forget who said it now, maybe it was on the DBTs Yahoo Group page but they described it as Southern Rock Opera in two minutes and eight seconds. For whatever reason, that description has stayed with me for all of these years.

Dedicated to my dear friend Sawmill who ultimately found his banana peel, not necessarily sooner than expected. Poor guy had a good heart though.
Never going back to Buttholeville. (Good luck with that!)

Thanks a lot, Smitty. That recording was fantastic.

Love Careless. And everytime I've ever caught DBT live I always wish they would tear into it. Even when I saw them with Jason in the band they never played it. I'd trade this for a LTBR or something I've caught so many times before.
