Tyler, would you mind elaborating a bit (what restaurant, good food, how early can you get in, etc) ? I'm flying in and have never been to Richmond before.

And more generally, what's the National like? Is there a balcony? I'll be w my girlfriend, I think I'd like to be somewhat close one night and likely hang back the other night.

It's in the same building as the venue, and owned by the same folks.

Food is fairly ok, nothing special, sort of typical Hard Rock Cafe/House of Blues type stuff.

Basically if you spend something like $10 in the restaurant (per person, and not counting booze), you can go down to the basement of the restaurant (the bar area) and wait in a seperate line that gets let in about 10 minutes before doors.

Yea, there's a balcony of some sort, don't really know more than that - I always head straight for the rail.

Just booked the Linden Row Inn, 3 star on Hotwire for 59$.

Two rooms left supposedly.

Hey Gaetzi. The National is general admission. The floor is slanted like a theater so you can see pretty well anywhere on the floor. There is a balcony (and a bar upstairs!) that has seating. There are not ticketed seats, first come first served.

The National is awesome. I think you'll like it plus the Truckers always seem to pull out the stops when they play there.

One thing that can't be overstated about the national is how beautiful a room it is - it originally opened in the 1920's as a vaudeville theater.

The first 5 rows of the balcony are cordoned off for people with yearly vip memberships

Can you imagine what shape the crowd is going to be in after drinking for four hours at the DBT show? Should be worth it alone just for the people watchin.
