DBT Track # 50 Gravity's Gone
Thanks to Clams for getting me involved in the board a little. I am on here several times a day but don't post very much. Gravity's Gone has always been one of my favorite Cooley songs. I really love the lyrics. Here is my favorite line.
What use to be is gone
And what ought to be, ought not to be so hard
I would love to hear everyone thoughts about the song.

Re: DBT Track # 50 Gravity's Gone
Almost a year into these tracks of the week and we still have all these top shelf songs left.
Another Cooley song that owes a big debt to the Stones. I love how it rocks but still has a country/honky tonk sound. So many great Cooley-isms in this one. My only complaint about this song is that it's too short.
I went stumbling through the fog trying to find a reason for the things I told her
She woke up sunny side down and I was still thinking I was too proud to flip her over
Between the champagne hand jobs and the kissing ass by everyone involved
Cocaine rich comes quick and that's why the small dicks have it all
So I'll meet you at the bottom if there really is one
They always told me when you hit it you'll know it
But I've been falling so long it's like gravity's gone and I'm just floating
Those little demons ain't the reasons for the bruises on your soul you've been neglecting
You'll never lose your mind as long as your heart always reminds you where you left it
And don't ever let them make you feel like saying what you want is unbecoming
If you were supposed to watch your mouth all the time I doubt your eyes would be above it
Between the champagne hand jobs and the kissing ass by everyone involved
What used to be is gone and what ought to be ought not to be so hard

I always thought that this:
And don't ever let them make you feel like saying what you want is unbecoming
If you were supposed to watch your mouth all the time I doubt your eyes would be above it
was the best line in the song. Classic Cooley.

A Classic that's all there is to say, but as previously said, there are SO MANY!
Re: DBT Track # 50 Gravity's Gone
Thanks for posting the lyrics Clams. You nailed the Stones sound. One can only hope that Keith Richards has had the pleasure of listening to DBT.
Re: DBT Track # 50 Gravity's Gone
Alsum song, and I'll go on the record as saying that I have no clue what a "champagne handjob" is, but I'd sure like to have one.
Now it's dark.

Every damn line of this song is quotable. Even for Cooley, that's just...something. Most songwriters spend their whole careers trying to write one great line, and he uses about a dozen of them in a single song.

I've always assumed that "champagne handjobs" refers to handjobs (or more generally, sexual activity) in the champagne rooms (i.e. VIP rooms) of strip clubs. In fact, it seemed obvious to me. Until u mentioned it, and now i can't say that there's any real reason that i think that. 'Cept it sounds right to me.

I've never made it to the champagne room but thought the same.

I always thought there was a comma in there.

I was thinking more along the lines of someone "jerking you off" as in telling you what you want to hear, like how great you are gonna be, I guess mostly b/c it is followed by the line "and the kiss'in ass by everyone else involved. I don't know, maybe i'm off base.
Never going back to Buttholeville. (Good luck with that!)

At least enough of a pause that seperates the champagne and the handjobs. The wife is always picking apart my music, but she never had a problem with this line. She definitely would have asked me what a champagne handjob is.
I'm only human, though I'm super at times.

No, no, that's just a small dick you're seeing.
GMU, i'd say the idea's the same whether it's champagne & handjobs or champagne [room] handjobs.

via urban dictionary:
1. Champagne Hand Job
a girl is giving you a hand job, and right when you are about to finish, she puts her thumb over the tip, spraying it everywhere, and leaving some stuck in the chamber. It'll come out in an hour, but probably sting.
Holy shit that girl just gave me a champagne hand job, and some got stuck in the champber!

It's a good thing Cooley doesn't reference a Dirty Sanchez.

That gets my vote for post of the year. Certainly, gives the lyrics a different spin.
