DBT and the workplace

Post by Bill in CT »

Toward the end of the day last week (think it was Tuesday), I noticed a piece of paper in our work area with "DBT" and a series of numbers on it. I asked my coworkers what it was and they replied that they were counting how many times I said "DBT" that day.
Anyone else have an amusing response by coworkers to your DBT fandom?

My good buddy from work is leaving for Vegas this weekend and he is absolutely scared to death of flying. He's always giving me grief for whatever DBT tidbit I might have for the day, so I made him a two song mix for the flight.... "Angels and Fuselage" & "Shut Up and Get on the Plane". Haven't heard back from him yet...

My Co workers and I have to hit the Streets of Charleston WV every so often around Lunch time. We frequently see this guy walking downtown who is Patterson's Twin! So everytime we see this guy downtown, we say "There Patterson again...." I'm not for sure if he knows who Patterson is but its awesome to see Patterson's twin all the time. The guy looks just like him! - I thought you guys would find that funny.

I was working after hours the other day and actually had "This F***ing Job" playing in my office. A older co-worker had came back into the building to pick up something and dropped by my office. I looked up from what I was doing and he was just nodding his head to the music. He said "keep it rocking in here" and walked out the door.
- Just a rope around his neck and the kitchen table turned on its side.

My colleagues now assume I'm going to a DBT show if I have a vacation day. The last time I was about to head out for vacation, my colleague asked, are you heading to another DBT show?

Also, I managed to slip a promo for DBT onto our website. We had to write up something about ourselves for the Who's Who section of our website. If you look at this link and then click on the picture of Sarah Henderson (aka CooleyGirl) you'll see what I mean: http://www.yale.edu/oiss/about/staff/index.html

I work for our local public radio station. We're primarily news and classical, but we do have a third HD channel that plays XPonential Radio, which is adult alternative rock. Recently I'd been called out for not having one of our three stations playing and for listening to my iTunes too much. I usually do listen to the third station, but the playlist--no matter how good it is--gets repetitive after awhile. And I tried explaining, "But there's no Truckers on there!" to no avail.

Last week I was talking to my coworker who's also a music junkie, and I heard "This F**** Job" (the radio-friendly one) playing! They'd added it to the rotation on XPonential. I was very excited and insisted we had to listen until it was over. Apparently the universe heard my woe at having to give up my Truckers playlist on iTunes, which is excellent. I'm going to send them an email and tell them to put some more on there!

Not work related but...

Yesterday I was watching TPC and I swear I heard the D-B-T chant whenever someone teed off at the 17th tee.

People in my office are lame.

They listen to Vampire Weekend or whatever crap adult soft rock is current for the moment like Michael Buble or The Fray or freaking Train.
I'm sorry if any of you like those bands/artists. I respect people a lot who make music for a living, but DBT blow them all away.

So, I'm all alone at work on my musical island.

Thank God for earplugs!

Thanks! Yep, the lady holding the chicken has chickens as pets. My whole office is wacky, but, you have to be in order to deal with Immigration on a daily basis.

Yeah, dude! I actually was walking up to him to say "Hi Patterson, I met you..." when I realized he just kept getting bigger the closer I came. I took some video of the sets... I gotta see if I got him on film.

A few of my co-workers actually made it a point to watch them on Jimmy Fallon. They all know when I ask for time off, it's usually Trucker-related. And they call me "drive-by"!!!

You're a classics person, too! Yay! That's what my educational background is, too! I...do absolutely nothing with my degrees except annoy people during movies like Troy, heh. Clearly, we classics majors have good musical taste! ;)

9B/3DD never fails to surprise and amaze :D :D This is one very cool place. 8-)

I am regularly reminded of when i first joined 9B and felt like the only DBT fan in about 6 states. I was moved to ask "just who are DBT fans?" And the answer, which has consistently proven to be correct ever since, was along the lines of "you'd be surprised."

Wow, what a small world!

Another Classics major, I'm impressed, we are very few and far between!

Yes, Penny Lane, you can speak Latin. Most people don't, but it is possible. My last class senior year was a doozy. I was the only person in it and they wouldn't give us a classroom so I had to meet in my Professor's office. He had me speak in Latin for most of the class and even had a tiny blackboard so he could write stuff out. There was no hiding in that class!

Never Going Back does Immigration work as well, which is so cool, there aren't too many of us out there either!

Sorry, I'm getting off topic. I'll shut up now.

Yay! We are indeed few and far between, aren't we? My focus was Greece so I took more Greek than Latin, but I too had a professor who, when our book wasn't in yet for the course, started writing The Iliad on the board of us in Greek...by MEMORY. !! The first day of class--talk about intimidating!

It's nice to know there are more of us around, ha! People ask about my MA thesis and their eyes glaze over--I don't blame them, it was hardly thrilling stuff, but it's nice to know there are people who understand the allure! :D

Oh God, I don't think I could translate lyrics into Latin at this point, I haven't used it that much since I graduated, which was 96!

I took a year of Ancient Greek as well, but don't ask me to translate anything into Greek either. For that matter, the 3 years of Spanish I took are pretty much long gone as well. However, working with people from all over the world is really cool, and I feel like my study of languages most definitely helps in my job.
