DBT tracks #48, "Play It All Night Long"
Grandpa pissed his pants again
He don't give a damn
Brother Billy has both guns drawn
He ain't been right since Vietnam
"Sweet home Alabama"
Play that dead band's song
Turn those speakers up full blast
Play it all night long
Daddy's doing Sister Sally
Grandma's dying of cancer now
The cattle all have brucellosis
We'll get through somehow
"Sweet home Alabama"
Play that dead band's song
Turn those speakers up full blast
Play it all night long
I'm going down to the Dew Drop Inn
See if I can drink enough
There ain't much to country living
Sweat, piss, jizz and blood
"Sweet home Alabama"
Play that dead band's song
Turn those speakers up full blast
Play it all night long.

Re: DBT tracks #48, "Play It All Night Long"
The brucellosis line always gets sung as "The cows have all got tuberculosis" which, as a huge fan of the original Zevon version, frankly annoys the crap out of me.
Re: DBT tracks #48, "Play It All Night Long"
I noticed that one in SF, Tyler, but I sang it right anyway.
I do like when they mix in a bit of Ain't that Pretty At All.
I'm gonna get a good running start and hurl myself against the wall as hard as I can"

Don't hurt people, and don't take their stuff.

Ha...I thought that too for a long time.
Never going back to Buttholeville. (Good luck with that!)

I totally agree.
Keep calm and have a cigar
Re: DBT tracks #48, "Play It All Night Long"
A review I read of TFP said something along the lines of "The Truckers take Warren Zevon's great 'Play it All Night Long', throw it up against a wall and beat it into submission with their guitars".
I agree, and am still chasing this live.

Yup something like that. I think of that description every time I hear it. It is def bad ass when they play it live.
If you don't run you rust
Re: DBT tracks #48, "Play It All Night Long"
I always like to think that Zevon stuck his antenna out and interfered w/ the DBT's bandwidth and stole this song.... it totally should have been a DBT, everything about it screams DBT.
Re: DBT tracks #48, "Play It All Night Long"
with all due respect to Zevon, DBT's version kicks it's ass all over the place

Re: DBT tracks #48, "Play It All Night Long"
The first time I heard the song was via a David Lindley/Hani Naser cover. The thing that stood out to me most was the Skynyrd reference. I saw the DBTs cover it several times but it never really hit home to me until the studio version. It's since become one of my very favorite covers of theirs.
Re: DBT tracks #48, "Play It All Night Long"
They played it live at a small venue in Fayetteville, and it was the highlight of the show.
Re: DBT tracks #48, "Play It All Night Long"
First time I caught this one was at the Abbey (sp?) Pub in Chicago. It's my favorite Zevon song done by my favorite band---was completely stunned that they did it. That/their version has always stuck w/ me and I prefer it to Zevon's. I've been very lucky to see it a lot and I can't get enough of it. Love the different variations. Love how Patterson will switch up the lines to "Zevon died of cancer" and the "I've seen the Mona Lisa, and it ain't that pretty at all" lines. Just a another straight rocker of theirs.
Re: DBT tracks #48, "Play It All Night Long"
Every time I've heard this song they've mixed in Ain't That Pretty at All, or, you know, the line or two from it.

The Pixies do a great version of Ain't That Pretty At All on the Warren Zevon tribute album Enjoy Every Sandwich. In fact, there are many great performances on this album. Too bad the Truckers were not asked to contribute to this album.
1. "Searching for a Heart" – Don Henley
2. "Werewolves of London" – Adam Sandler
3. "Reconsider Me" – Steve Earle with Reckless Kelly
4. "Poor Poor Pitiful Me" – Jackson Browne with Bonnie Raitt
5. "My Ride's Here" (Live) – Bruce Springsteen
6. "Lawyers, Guns, and Money" – Wallflowers
7. "Studebaker" – Jordan Zevon
8. "The Wind" – Billy Bob Thornton
9. "Splendid Isolation" – Pete Yorn
10. "Mutineer" (Live) – Bob Dylan
11. "Monkey Wash Donkey Rinse" – David Lindley and Ry Cooder
12. "Don't Let Us Get Sick" – Jill Sobule
13. "Ain't That Pretty at All" – Pixies
14. "Keep Me in Your Heart" – Jorge Calderón/Jennifer Warnes
15. "Keep Me in Your Heart" (Strings Only) – arranged by Van Dyke Parks

Re: DBT tracks #48, "Play It All Night Long"
When they played this in Chicago in Feb it seemed to shake the building.
Awesome........

Re: DBT tracks #48, "Play It All Night Long"
I have always loved this song.....
I've heard tales of what goes down there ...

I've seen several live versions on YouTube, and I still think DBT's version wipes the mat with Zevon

No offense meant either, as I love DBT, but I saw Warren play this and I saw Jim Carroll Band do People Who Died and I felt both were superior to DBT cover...but I've not seen DBT do People Who Died live, just on video...

Re: DBT tracks #48, "Play It All Night Long"
Studio version for studio version, Zevon is better. I never saw him do it live, but it's hard to imagine him topping DBT.
The sooner we put those assholes in the grave&piss on the dirt above it, the better off we'll be
Re: DBT tracks #48, "Play It All Night Long"
Still disagree

Re: DBT tracks #48, "Play It All Night Long"
I absolutely love Zevon, but DBT's got him beat on this one.
E quindi uscimmo a riveder le stelle.
