Re: Never Had Such A Good Time/The Grateful Dead Thread

Am I the only Deadhead on Earth who could take or leave "Morning Dew?" Sure, some versions (esp Cornell, also Veneta 72) are pretty great, but as a tune, it's never been my favorite "Jerry ballad"

Maybe I should have posted that on the blasphemy thread!

Re: Never Had Such A Good Time/The Grateful Dead Thread

They're going bananas on Dead.net over the problems with this set: download issues, wrong items sent, missing discs, scratches, and skips. I have two skips myself, on discs that look cosmetically perfect, so make sure you check 'em all. Think they sorta dropped the ball on this one..

Re: Never Had Such A Good Time/The Grateful Dead Thread

So glad you said that. I feel the same way. I mean, it looks cool, if that matters. But it feels flimsy, and like something that will be bent very easily. And where the hell do you even put something like this in your house?? I'm gonna rip the discs and put this thing on the bookshelf or something I...

Re: Never Had Such A Good Time/The Grateful Dead Thread

Dave's Picks Volume 22 this release probably buries my longtime wish for an official release of December 5, 1971- an epic, epic show, FM recordings have circulated forever- but nonetheless this should be sweet!!! Waited on line outside the Felt Forum box office at 5:30 in the morning. Eventually ma...

Re: Music that makes you irrationally angry

Weirdly, I recently decided that the 'Coog's band circa Lonesome Jubilee is overdue for a critical reassessment. I get that he's the poor man's Springsteen, but "Check It Out" and "Cherry Bomb are great singles, yall. And I think I'd still rep for Scarecrow , though haven't actually listened to it i...

My favorite part of the interview is when Cooley plays the dad card when describing the reaction to shootings. Too bad his line of questioning isn't used more often this was my favorite part. It was so...logical! Just echoing everyone else upthread who said this was one of the better interviews the...

That and 70s Kinks is all I've been jammin' this week. I hear that, I've been on the same Kinks track, in the last week I've been revisiting Sleepwalker, Low Budget, and the amazing One for the Road. Hell, in general 2016 has been a huge Kinks year for me, one of the only good aspects of an otherwi...

If you say so. ;) Probably not a lot of sympathy around these parts for anything with a whiff of "pop country," but I've been enjoying the new Miranda Lambert album. It's sorta her Southeastern (but better imo). Check out "Things That Break" and "Running Just In Case," for starters. That and 70s Kin...

I tried to discipline myself and not skip right ahead to Patterson and Kelly's stories, but couldn't resist. I agree, Patterson's story is really good! I laughed out loud a few times (the part about the kid 'literally playing with fire,' etc). He's a strong writer (no surprise there, but then again ...

Re: American Band- 9/30/16

It wasn't a huge inconvenience, but I have a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon, which is a belt-driven model. To change from 33 to 45 rpm, you have to physically lift the platter and move the belt, so I had to lift the platter off twice between side 1 and side 2 of the 12" LP. Pro-Ject's design choice is not t...

Re: American Band- 9/30/16

I was just going by an interview I read with Patterson where he talks about bringing in a new engineer (assuming it was the in-house guy in Nashville) and that Barbe sent more time 'producing' this time, ie listening, tweaking, etc, which probably meant less hands-on-the-faders and mic placement typ...
