Re: Recent Purchases
this morning i impulse bought a box set of leonard cohen's first 11 albums for cheap on amazon, then regretted it and tried to cancel because that's way too much cohen for me, but it was too late. the next few weeks are going to be more morose than usual.

Re: Do Kings of Leon and DBT have history?
Walls ... is the seventh studio album by American rock band Kings of Leon... The album title is an acronym for We Are Like Love Songs, which continues the band's unwritten rule of having five-syllable album titles Wtf? Why do all the records have to have 5 syllables? Why would a group of dudes want...

Re: DBT at Blue Ox Fest (WI), June 8-10, 2017
That's only 120 miles for us. Seems like a steep price tag, but DBT, Son Volt, and Dead Man Winter is awfully appealing. I haven't been to Blue Ox yet (this is the 3rd annual), but people who have say it's a great time. It's on the campground connected to the Eaux Claires festival grounds, which wi...

DBT at Blue Ox Fest (WI), June 8-10, 2017
Just announced. Also Son Volt, Dead Man Winter, and a bunch of bluegrass and bluegrass-adjacent bands (it's a bg fest, mostly).
This is like 8 minutes from my front door, so I just need to figure out if I can swallow the $150 price tag for a 3-day pass.

Re: Albums of the year 2016.
The whole Lydia Loveless thing began with someone saying it wasn't deserving of any year-end best of list. If you're going to make some sort of declarative statement like that, at least take a minute or two to look into it first before putting your foot in your mouth. Same with making statements ak...

Hard to imagine that he's just going to sit on those guitar playing skills for the rest of his career. Cole, I don't know if you've seen him live in the post-Southeastern era, but when I saw him on the SMTF tour his electric guitar abilities were front and center on about 3/4 of the songs. He's def...

I really enjoy Cracked Windshield (esp. the "I can fix this, babe" verse at the end), but I can see why someone might find it a little tedious.

Nice list and write-ups, Zip. It's funny, we like a lot of the same stuff but to very different degrees, and your standout tracks are almost uniformly my least favs on their respective albums.

Finally got around to giving "Real" a full-attention listen on the exercise bike the other night. Great, great album. I liked LL's previous album quite a bit but thought it sounded a bit samey. "Real" is much more varied in tempo, melody and texture. And the bass lines are killer. Two thumbs up.

Re: Jason hitting the studio
Is JI really capable of making a Rock record? It's a fair question isn't it? Of his DBT work only Never Gonna Change is a real rock song and the only album he's made with more than 1 or 2 is Sirens of the Ditch. The guy writes ballads, mostly good ones, I think he thinks he writes Rock songs, but I...

Just saw that LB3&tGF signed to Don Giovanni records, making them labelmates with Roadside Graves. I've always thought of RG as being the New Jersey equivalent of working class southern bands like the Dexateens and the Glory Fires, so to me, this seems cosmically appropriate.

Re: Incredibly sad after tonight's show....
With everything that's gone on over the last couple of weeks and what it says about the direction this country and the world are heading, imagine still having the energy to be "incredibly saddened" by something said at a rock and roll show. I'm a little envious, tbh.
