Re: Lee Bains III & the Glory Fires New Album "Old Time Folks"
Lee is a very important lyricist for these times and anything he does to me has great purpose. I feel this album is a good mix of a lot of their styles over the years. That song "Gentlemen" is one of the best he has ever written. Wow!

Re: Knuckleheads Kansas City, MO 7/16/2022
I was at the show. Yes, she was still the opener. For me “Shake and Pine” was weak as an opener. However the rest of the show was one of my very favorites of my many times seeing them even though it was 4-5 songs short from the norm. Obviously for me the highlight was “We will never wake you up in ...

Re: Welcome to Club XIII
Weird history lesson for sure. I agree that there is something off with the vocals and instrumental together but also agree that Cooley makes it work. Minus the history aspect I think its awkwardness is more in line with Slow Ride Argument for me sonically.

Re: Welcome to Club XIII
I’ll tell you, though, the more time goes on I think We Will Never Wake You Up in the Morning, is the best song on the record. It might be one of Patterson’s best songs ever in the same territory as The Living Bubba, Ever South and a few others. I've done some thinking of how this song fits in with...

^^^Great post. I am really enjoying this record even tho I was rather obsessed with the last three and their content lol. I agree with your thoughts on “We will never wake you up in the morning” such a beautiful tribute to Justin Townes Earle and his troubled life. My favorite song on the album for ...

Re: Welcome to Club XIII
Love me some Bandcamp on release day as I ordered physical copies that may take a while lol. Been spinnin the album since about 6 am. Gotta say it’s good. Mellow in comparison to the past three. I miss the pissed off political angst a little. They do it so well. Don’t know how it sits in my favs ove...

Best album yet. Grown with so much maturity in his writing. Gut wrenching songs throughout. My favorite lyricist of modern music. #sadsongsmakemehappy

Jeff’s best writing in at least 15 years. Love it great album been on repeat since Friday 8am. How I’ve missed Wilco and their country sound.

Re: Wilco's Cruel Country
I’ve listened to Cruel Country 3 times straight through and it is definitely one of my favs all time from them. Jeff’s lyrics are the best they have been in years. The hushed vocals throughout add to the intimacy of these songs for me. I also really love the melodic tone musically through the whole ...

Re: Welcome to Club XIII
I really liked Welcome 2 Club XIII as the first song released for the new album. I feel like it was perfect to show their shift in album theme and direction. A reminiscing historical piece that’s catchy and fun. Probably the most logical choice of the 9 songs. I really like it. Obviously Every Singl...

Re: Welcome to Club XIII
I feel like their “single” the last few albums has been one of my last choices, but that’s why I’m not in the band Go back and check the history of rock and roll and you will find there is rarely any correlation between singles and the best songs on a record. Too true. SOO many bands that I've like...

Brilliant as usual, all 4 of their albums are great listens. For the genre of music truly one of the most underrated bands making music today. Amazing songwriting and I love their lead guitarist....so good.

Re: Welcome to Club XIII
Something about the verses has a Three Great Alabama Icons quality to me and anything that evokes that side of the band is great with me. Just to bust your chops, I note the amusing irony of your reference to a "political song." :D I mean maybe going back as far as the Brighter Than Creation’s Dark...

Re: Wilco's Cruel Country
I really enjoyed Ode To Joy a lot as an album. I must be in the minority there, but it is a consistent spin for me still. I will say I have missed their country roots over the years and many albums and welcome it back at any time.....especially an entire double album worth of tracks. Super excited f...

Re: Welcome to Club XIII
“The Driver” for me has subtle political references. Not to say that’s bad, as I agree with all they’ve ever said. It’s just a clear move for a more toned down approach from the more straight forward political commentary of the last three albums.

Re: New album
Does anyone else find similarities between the The New Ok chorus and Welcome to Club xiii in sound? For some reason in my mind right now they are the same thing lol. I have to say that this album really has grown on me. I am like many on here with wishing there was more Cooley. I feel they are the perfect in sound and style to go back and forth on album sequencing. I do understand how hard it is to write about the current state of our country 3 times(last three ...

Love the title “Trump Trilogy” for the last 3 records. Meant to respond to this earlier. Very catchy and cute but oh, I don't know, unsettling and puts the focus in the wrong place I think. How about the Resistance Trilogy? Not nearly as catchy I know but it does seem closer to the spirit of things...

I've been listening to the "Trump Trilogy" a bunch recently. Love the title “Trump Trilogy” for the last 3 records. I really really like AB. However I love The Unraveling and The New Ok much better and listen to them a lot more than AB. I like how different the two records are sonically and for thi...

No artist meant more to me than JTE. I was able to see him in KC at Knuckleheads right before the pandemic hit. He was outside smoking before the show and I walked up and struck up a convo with him. Re: The New OK - 10/2/2020 (Vinyl 12/18)
Sarah's Flame has been talked about a lot so far. I personally think it is classic Cooley in his mellow vocal delivery and sound. Lyrically it is as sharp and witty as he always is. I personally like the story of this song a lot because it so very true. It could have been a song from the Go Go Boots...

Re: The New OK - 10/2/2020 (Vinyl 12/18)
The Unraveling, along with Made of English Oceans, was my favorite DBT album since Brighter Than Creation’s Dark, but I think The New Ok is by far the worst thing they’ve released and that’s saying a lot because I’m no fan of the TBTD/GGB era either. I really don’t think there’s a single song on th...
