Re: The Norva - July 24th

Patterson did "Margaret" as a dedication to my daughter Margaret, who was at the show and expecting her first child in December. It was a complete surprise to all of us. She had tears in her eyes by the end of it. Meant more than I can ever express. Just one more example of what a kind, thoughtful a...

Re: Homecoming 2015: 2/12, 2/13, 2/14 @ The Fabulous 40 Watt

On Thursday night Rebecca said Liam was wanting to hear Zip City baaaaad! They were so tired from traveling they left early and missed it. As it got closer and closer to encore time on Friday, I kept telling him, it's coming and then Cooley didn't play it. He got it on Saturday after a very special ...

Patterson sat down at the keyboards at The Fillmore on Friday night. That's the first time I'd ever seen him do it. It took me by surprise.

Re: Homecoming 2015: 2/12, 2/13, 2/14 @ The Fabulous 40 Watt

Craig was still front end manager at the 40 Watt, the first Homecoming I went to. On Saturday he sat down next to me on the pool table that used to sit off to the side of the stage. I asked him what Fire Marshall capacity was. He said around 500. I said, if you don't mind telling me, how many do you...

The documentary will eventually be released on DVD. For those of you in the Richmond area, it's showing at Bowtie on November 1. I'm working on doing a brief intro and a short Q & A after the showing. The NYC premier was a VERY special night in all regards! It doesn't get any better than a band ...

Grand Canyon is about/for Craig. I couldn't hold back the tears as Patterson played the full band version for me in "The Office" last Saturday. It's both breathtaking and heartbreaking at the same time. As we all know, no songwriter is able to express those emotions better than Patterson H...

From the mid seventies into the early eighties, George was living in Florence. My roomate at the time had a Lincoln and was getting it worked on at the local dealership. George was having his worked on at the same time. In Alabama you only have a license plate on the back. You can put anything you w...

Re: Athens Homecoming Shows January 17, 18 & 19 2013

I meant to say Friday night, not Saturday.
Friday's perfect gesture was Patterson raising the bottle to the sky to start the show.
Saturday's perfect gesture was Paul raising the picture of Craig to the crowd and kissing it, to end the show.
Class acts, to honor a class guy!

Patterson handed me that nearly empty bottle of Maker's Mark backstage right before they went on Saturday. It was the first slug of whiskey I'd had in 15 years. There could not have been a better/worse time for it!

There seems to be some confusion about the "After Party". Hopefully I can help. Here's the deal. Cous Cous is a restaurant/club basically in the heart of the VCU campus. It is walkable from The National, but I'd catch a ride or a cab. I'm all about walking, but it would be a loooong walk a...

"Take a Letter Maria" was the first "hit" recorded at Muscle Shoals Sound. From what I've read they were recording that album at the same time the Rolling Stones were recording there. The Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section would work on the R.B. Greaves album during the day and they wo...

Re: Bulldozers and Dirt/Nine Bullets 7" Single

The Yep Roc compilation cover is a fairly early painting by Wes Freed. He and Jyl did an in-store at Plan 9 back in the late 90s and used it as a stage prop. They left it at Plan 9. It sat in the back office for years, just leaned up against the wall with a stack of promo stuff. After years of it ju...

Re: List of Unusual DBT Shows

Alley Katz, Richmond, VA July 23(I think) 2004. They completely blew the power late in the show. After about 20 minutes, they got enough juice going in the joint for the amps and monitors. DBTs crew quickly strung a light from a rafter above the stage. Patterson and Cooley then turned the monitors a...

Jack was there last night. He was hanging out and chatting with the band, family and friends before the show.
